Look what I found! It is not gross - its cool! I found it growing on a stump in Loveland, Ohio. I think it is called Auricularia cornea (Jelly Ear Fungus). I googled "fungus." Please do not ever do this. You would not BELIEVE the problems some people have with their toe nails(!) Anyway, it matched the pic of this type of fungus. Here is another shot!
I am linking with Ramblingwoods.com for her Nature Notes meme on Wednesdays! She is passionate about nature and has some awareness info at her blog about saving the frogs and the monarch butterflies.
The fungus on the stump is very beautiful to me. Creative shots.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I found something oddly pretty about it myself...
DeleteI too have tried to Google fungus and it got very strange and there are even clubs devoted to mushrooms..I have never seen this kind before and they really do look like their name. Thank you for checking out other info on the blog. After 5 years, I have a lot of stuff there.. The whole Monstanto thing is so upsetting and all the GM seeds and all of the food as a result of it..disturbing...One company that control so much linked to the food chain is not good..they must have a huge..huge lobby...Michelle
ReplyDeleteIt is cool looking fungus shaped like ears. I am always checking out the fungus, mushrooms and wildflowers when I am out walking. Great captures and thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi there - glad you liked my post "Bobbing about" on my "wordy" blog.
ReplyDeleteI think fungi have a charm all of their own - they certainly have a strange and alien feel to them.
Cheers - Stewart M.
I think it's beautiful! And your words made me laugh! I can almost hear you yelling at Mr Google "that's not the kind of fungus I meant you idiot"! (He doesn't always understand me either ;>))
ReplyDeleteSuch a smooth surface on that fungi!
ReplyDeletegreat texture in these pics
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's not gross
ReplyDeletethey're a beautiful color
Pretty cool looking fungi.
ReplyDeleteFascinating fungus you have there. I checked it out on Wikipedia, and it seems it's edible. Apparently, it's popular in China but not in the west. Go figure.
ReplyDelete;-)
I would actually try them because I am a pretty adventurous eater. BUT, what if I identified them wrong? Yikes(!) That was really cool of you to look it up though - do you think I identified them right?
DeleteI love fungi they are so diverse and such a unique life form. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing, Libby, great captures.
ReplyDeleteFungi are essential for the recycling of nutrients in nature.
